MID-AMERICA COUNCIL SCOUT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

To ensure that your application is reviewed and processed as quickly and accurately as possible, please read and follow these procedures and requirements as written.  All scholarship checks will be mailed directly to academic institutions after the award is announced and eligibility criteria have been confirmed. 

All applicants must meet the following requirements: 

Currently registered and active in a unit within the Mid-America Council.
Enrolled in college/other institution of higher learning for the fall of 2023.

PROCEDURE

The Scout applying for a scholarship must:

Current BSA Registraiton is required.

Complete the application personally.
E-Mail only the items requested in the requirements (no biographies, resumes, or supplementary lists of activities) to mac@scouting.org
Include the applicant’s name on each attachment in the upper right-hand corner.

Each applicant must have a standard recommendation form submitted by a non-family member on their behalf.  This form can be found on the MAC Website.  If you have trouble finding it, please contact mac@scouting.org

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTIONS AND CRITERIA - please read all carefully

“Robert Mueller Memorial” Eagle Scout Scholarship - A one (1) year scholarship in the amount of $4,000 awarded to one recipient. To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria: 1. Eagle Scout currently registered in a unit. (If you are unsure, please contact Scouter Services at (402) 431-9BSA). 2. Attending an institute of higher learning in the fall (does not have to be a 4-year university – can be a community college or occupational school).

Rev. John P. Schlegel Creighton Eagle Scout Scholarship – A one (1) year scholarship in the amount of $6,500 awarded to one recipient. To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria: 1. Eagle Scout currently registered in a unit. (If you are unsure, please contact Scouter Services at (402) 431-9BSA). 2. High school graduate enrolled, or already attending Creighton University.  

Charles W. Sigerson, Jr. Eagle Scout Scholarship – A one (1) year scholarship in the amount of $4,250 awarded to one recipient. To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria: 1. Eagle Scout currently registered in a unit. (If you are unsure, please contact Scouter Services at (402) 431-9BSA). 2. Attending an institute of higher learning in the fall (does not have to be a 4-year university – can be a community college or occupational school).

Gardner Scholarship – A one (1) year scholarship awarded to two (2) recipients in the amount of $1,000 each. Scholarship will be given to a camp staff member in good standing. To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria: 1. Scholarships are earned only for those summers of complete employment. 2.  Priority for the scholarship will be given to camp staff members in good standing, who live within 75 miles of Wakefield, NE.  3. Camp staff members in good standing do not include: a. Members dismissed from employment. Dismissal voids all previously accumulated scholarships. Members who sign a probationary contract because of previous sub-standard employment; a staff member, who completes a satisfactory summer while on probation, though not eligible for the scholarship amount for the summer of probation, may utilize the previous scholarship amount.

Summer Camp Staff Higher Education Scholarship – A two (2) year scholarship in the total amount of $12,500 awarded to one (1) recipient. $3,500 awarded year one (1) and $9,000 awarded year two (2).

 To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

Scout must be a member of Summer Camp staff (Camp Cedars or Camp Amikaro) for two consecutive summers, including the current summer (2023) and next summer (2024).  A staff member who completes satisfactory summer employment in 2023 but does not return for 2024 employment will not be eligible for the second portion of the scholarship ($9,000) but may retain the previous scholarship amount ($3,000) awarded in the prior year.
Scout must be employed each summer for the complete summer term (i.e., Scouts who work at camp for only part of the summer are not eligible.)
Scout must be in good standing at the time of the application and must maintain good standing as a Scout and Scout employee during the two-year scholarship term, as determined by the Scout Executive and Camp Director. You must provide a standard recommendation letter completed by the Camp Director with whom you worked, in addition to the recommendation form from a non-family member as outlined above for all applicants.
