IMPORTANT!

This scholarship application can only be completed by the parent/legal guardian of the Scout with financial need.  If you are a unit leader, DO NOT complete it for them.  There is personal and confidential information only THEY should provide.  Thank you in advance for abiding by this important rule.

WHEN CAN I COMPLETE THIS FORM?  From November 1 (12:00 AM) NOW THROUGH JULY 15 (11:59 PM).  Make sure you click on the "Submit" button at the bottom.  If our scholarship funds are depleted before then, the form will be "turned off": The questions and Submit button will no longer show below.  If we are able to extend the deadline again, the new date will be listed above and the questions will reappear.

This funding is available to NEIC Youth only. If you have any questions about the scholarship process, contact our Scout Executive at Nick.Roberts@scouting.org.

To amend your responses after you've submitted your scholarship application (sudden loss or gain of employment, change in medical condition, etc.), contact our Program Assistant, Debi.Geiger@scouting.org

CONFIDENTIALITY:  We value your privacy, so Nick and Debi are the only two people who have access to the detailed information you provide.

MORE THAN ONE SCOUT IN FAMILY OR MORE THAN ONE EVENT/WEEK?

  1. You must submit one application for each program/event.  If your child is attending two weeks of camp, or two different NEIC Scouting events, you must fill out the application twice.
  2. If you have more than one Scout needing financial assistance, you must complete an application for each of them (2 or more Scouts=2 or more applications).

This is the only way the approved amounts can be properly applied online to each Scout, Event, and Week as a scholarship (council program) payment.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE NOT GUARANTEED.

SCOUTS BSA SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS:  ALL Scouts must be registered online by their unit's MSR Camp Contact, so they can be counted in the scout/adult ratio to receive Adult Leader discounts.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Starting in February, scholarships application data will be downloaded by Debi, the Program Assistant. This will be done every 2-3 weeks, then more often starting later in the Spring.
  • This information will be shared with Nick Roberts, our Scout Executive to finalize amounts approved.
  • Families will be notified of these approved amounts by email or phone call.
  • If registered online by your unit, that "Registration Contact" will also be notified of the approved amount, so they know the family does not need to pay it to them or the unit treasurer.
  • Scholarship payments will be manually applied by Debi to each Scout's camp fees (every 2-3 weeks, more often later in the Spring).  This can only happen after they are registered online (she needs a place to apply it).
  • Contact Debi  at Debi.Geiger@scouting.org if you or your unit have questions about registering online without paying the amount due.
  • Please be patient, since the closer we get to the summer camp season, the busier both Nick and Debi's daily schedules become.

REGISTRATION BALANCE:  After scholarship payments are applied, it is the family's responsibility to see that the balance for the event is paid in a timely manner.

Find out if any of these apply:

  • Your Unit has a PayPal account to collect payments
  • Your Unit can/will pay it from your Scout's Fundraising Account (Cub Scouts and Provisional Scouts included)
  • Your Unit will require a payment by check or cash to your Registration Contact or Unit Treasurer (make checks payable to your Unit)
  • Your Unit will activate the "Parent Portal" for the event registration they completed (where your Scout is registered), so your family can make payments online.  Tell them to can contact Debi if they have questions about this option: Debi.Geiger@scouting.org.

DID YOU MISS THE APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE?  Contact Debi Geiger to see if and/or when this application will be reopened.

"WHAT I DID AT CAMP":  We ask that any Scout who receives a scholarship write a note about their time at camp. We understand that financial situations are sensitive and private, and your scout may not know you asked for financial assistance.  So, instead of asking your Scout to write a "Thank You" note for the scholarship, we hope you will encourage them to write a note about what they learned at camp, what they did, what they loved the most, etc. We also love drawings about, and pictures of, their time at camp! We will pass them along to those who give generously each year to our scholarship funds. Feel free to e-mail them to Debi Geiger or send them by mail to her attention. Writing about the fun they had can help them: Build lifetime memories, appreciate the experience even more, and as a bonus, practice their penmanship.  smiley
