Re:          Camp Chawanakee Staff Application Process

Dear Staff Applicant,                                                                                              January 8, 2024

The Sequoia Council, BSA invites you to apply for a summer position at Camp Chawanakee on the shores of Shaver Lake. Our camp has been an institution in Fresno County for generations. Last summer was our 76th year of serving the youth of California, and the western United States. Traditionally, we have 3000 campers during our 7 week summer sessions. We are excited you want to be a part of the camp staff.

As a staff member, you’ll have the opportunity to form life-long friendships, hone strong work habits, be a part of a team, learn new and exciting skills, and so much more.

Serving on a camp staff can be fun and rewarding, but it’s also hard work.  A summer camp is a lot like its own town, with very similar needs. We provide meal services in a state-of-the-art Dining Hall facility, on-site emergency medical services, sanitation, a camp store, and an extensive camp program that is exemplary.

We are looking for the very best in staffing our support services, and our instructional leaders. We demand a professional job performance and “team first” types of commitments from our selected staff members. Do you want to be a part of this experience for 2024? We know everyone gets busy and have different levels of availability. For continuity of program and support services, our ideal staff member will be part of our team for the entire time camp is open. We understand that high school and colleges have varying ending dates. We can work with you, if you are selected.

Here is our process;

1-Fill out and submit the application as soon as possible. Be as thorough as possible with your responses. Directions on how to submit your completed application are included. There is no application deadline, but applying early gives you a better chance of getting hired and being selected for the position you desire. E-mail is a must in this process. Please include the email that you check most often.

2-You will hear back from us in the early Spring. Interviews will be in February and March and will be held at the Council Office in Fresno. Additional arrangements can also be made, due to distance or conflicts with your current schedule.

3-In April you will be notified if you are selected for a position. Selected staff members will receive an e-mailed packet with important information, forms to be filled out, a staff manual, and job/salary descriptions.

If you have any questions, email me at roy.verduzco@Scouting.org.

Sincerely,

Roy Verduzco-Camp Chawanakee Director

NOTE: Please note, to be paid staff, a selected member MUST be over 16 years of age.

For applicants interested in applying for Counselors In Training (C.I.T) position, qualified persons aged 14-15 years old during camp, should specify on their application that they are interested in a C.I.T position. Rank of Star Scout is a minimum consideration.
