Guide to Safe Scouting requires that all camping activities with units from more than one chartered organization be approved by the council. National policy states:
"Local council approval is needed for all unit-coordinated overnight camping activities involving other units not chartered by the same organization. Units that wish to host events involving other units that do not share the same charter partner must have approval from their council. This includes events for packs, troops, crews, and ships from the same council; neighboring councils; the same territory; or other territory."
Typical Mulit-unit activities:
- Arrow of Light to Scouts BSA Overnighters for troops to promote recruitment into Scouts BSA
- Units filling spots in a BSA specialty program (Example: pack aquarium or zoo overnight).
Typical requests that will likely be denied:
- Units trying to hold a multi-unit event for a geographic area. This should be a district event or council event and require a Short-Term Camp Administrator.
- Events for a specific gender of Scouts will typically NOT be approved as we are an inclusive program.
By submitting this request the applicant and host unit acknowledge and agree:
- The host unit is responsible for ensuring all units follow the Guide to Safe Scouting at all times.
- The host unit will ensure each participating unit has their own registered 2-deep leadership on site at all times.
- The host unit is responsible for accountability of any fees and payment of any incurred expenses.
- The event must be clearly advertised as a unit event. the host unit cannot use council or district names or logos.
- The host unit must provide the council with the name, unit, email, and phone number of the person in charge on site.
- Permission must be requested for EACH event date. Acceptance for one event does not guarantee acceptance for future events.
