A council-wide opportunity for youth to advise the Scout Executive, share ideas, identify challenges, and help shape the future of Scouting across Alaska.
Great Alaska Council is seeking 5–7 youth members from across the council to serve on the Scout Executive’s Youth Advisory Council (SEYAC) in 2027. The Youth Advisory Council gives Scouts a direct voice with the Scout Executive and council leadership. Members will share ideas, provide honest feedback, identify challenges, and help shape the future of Scouting across Alaska.
What Will You Do?
Youth Council members will provide input on:
Council events, camping, and summer programs
Membership and why Scouts join, stay, or leave
Communications and outreach
Recognition and advancement experiences
Council facilities and resources
New ideas and improvements to the Scouting experience
Members will also be encouraged to talk with other Scouts and bring their perspectives to the Council.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants should be registered Great Alaska Council youth, generally ages 13–20, who are willing to listen, speak honestly, and help improve Scouting.
You do not need to be an Eagle Scout, SPL, OA officer, NYLT graduate, or experienced youth leader. We want a mix of communities, programs, ages, experiences, and perspectives.
Commitment
Members will serve for approximately one year.
Participate in about six 1 hour meetings during the year.
Attend primarily virtually, with occasional opportunities to meet in person.
Seek input from other Scouts.
Respect different opinions and offer constructive feedback.
Follow the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Youth Protection, and applicable Scouting America policies.
The Council is an advisory group. Recommendations may help shape programs, be referred to council committees, become pilot projects, or inform future planning. The Youth Advisory Council may also periodically share its perspective with the Great Alaska Council Executive Board.
