Mid-America Council

Camp Cedars Merit Badge Prerequisites

Many Merit Badge requirements completed outside of camp can be done before camp while others are better done after the Scout has learned the material for the badge. We don’t want to take away the ability to complete a badge at camp, but we also don’t want Scouts to feel like they have to do “homework” before they even start the badge at camp. Send in prerequisites at least a week before arrival at camp for proper record keeping, or Scouts can bring proof of completion to camp. Uploads can be documents or pictures of requirements being completed.

Examples:
Citizenship in the Nation requirement 7-- A photo of the Scout at a National Landmark/ Monument and a few sentences about what they learned, etc. would be sufficient.
First Aid requirement 5b-- A photo of the Scout inspecting the Troop's first-aid kit with a brief evaluation included would be sufficient.
American Heritage 3--  A summary of the Scout's family history would be sufficient.

Pre-requisites submitted prior to camp will be checked off in the merit badge records. If a Scout does not submit a pre-requisite online nor bring it to camp with them, the merit badge will not be marked complete and the Scout will need to work with a local merit badge counselor to complete the remaining requirements of the badge. Requirements submitted after the Scout has attended camp will not be accepted and the Scout will need to work with a local merit badge counselor/ their advancement chair to complete the remainder of the badge.

One page summary of prerequisites is available HERE.

NOTE: Canoeing, Kayaking, Rowing, and Swimming merit badges require Scouts to be blue swimmers. Please upload pre-camp swim check forms on your unit registration.
