Campership Policy
The Northeast Iowa Council is committed to making camp opportunities available to all youth in the communities we serve. In support of that commitment, the council will pay up to half the fee for a Northeast Iowa Council program that a youth cannot afford. The campership program has limited resources and is designed to assist our youth members who could not get a camping experience any other way. Units are encouraged to participate fully in the annual popcorn sale and camp card sale as “paying one’s own way” is a valuable characteristic, and that this value will ultimately better serve Scouts in the future. It is our belief that each applicant should pay some portion of their fee and the unit and chartered partners should also pay a portion of the fee.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for financial assistance a Scout must be:
   • Registered youth with Northeast Iowa Council and in good standing with the Scout’s unit.
   • Plan to attend a summer camp program operated by the Northeast Iowa Council.
   • In need of financial help in order to attend summer camp.
   • Submits a completed Application for Campership Assistance by April 15
   • Recommended for aid by unit leader*.

*If the unit leader as a parent is applying for assistance, the Committee Chair or Charter Organization Representative (cannot be the leader’s spouse) must fill in the unit leader section and sign the recommendation.

COMPLETING THE REQUEST FOR CAMPERSHIP
It is important that all questions on the request for campership form be answered completely. Camperships are awarded based on need, and need can only be determined from the information on the form. Incomplete forms will be returned to the unit leader.

AWARDING AND NOTIFICATIONS
Camperships are awarded under the direction of our Vice President of Outdoor Programs. We desire that all camperships be awarded with a minimum of publicity in order to avoid any embarrassment for recipients. Notification of camperships awarded will be sent to the unit leader (Cubmaster or Scoutmaster). It is the unit’s responsibility to show proof of campership awarded at the time of making payment. If for any reason a Scout will not use a campership award, please notify the Council Service Center as soon as possible, so the award can be used for another Scout, camperships are not transferable. The balance of camp fees over and above the campership award must be paid according to the schedule of camp application.

Please view Northeast Iowa Council’s “Campership Policy” above prior to completing and submitting this form.
